The January 2022 marks not only the 12th month of GDT releases, but also a major switch in my workflow. Over the holidays, I invested a lot of time into re-skilling and learning how to use Blender. While this is a particularly stubborn software, there is so many things that are great about it. The result is a January 2022 Package that is slightly different from the other packages because it introduces a total of 3 new product lines: The Universal Hex Campaign Map, Base Toppers and Terrain Inserts.
Universal Hex Campain Map
The Universal Hex Campaign Map provides all the parts for making a Hex Grid (that ideally is mounted on a noice plinth). The Hex Grid is basically an empty grid that can be filled with Terrain Inserts that fit your campain’s narrative. There will be a lot more Terrain Inserts in the future.
In this package there is everything you will need to build a Hex Grid.
Tokens
In total there are 46 tokens that can be used as base stat indicators or as labels for the rows and columns of the hex grid. All of these tokens from CM-021 to CM-065 have a 5x1mm magnet slot underneath. Be sure you get enough magnets 😉
Terrain Inserts
Terrain Inserts make the UHCM “universal” as they allow for a changing map on a nice modeled map. It technically does not matter what game system you are playing, be it Titanicus, Battlefleet or any other game system. As long as you can fill the map with Terrain Inserts, you’re good to go. (Please note, that we included a blank Terrain Insert for Scratch building CM-002).
Base Toppers
Base Toppers make their introduction in January 2022. Basically, all you need to do here is print and glue on top of the black plastic bases that come with your models. Don’t worry if there are not all shapes and sizes available, we will expand those ranges over the next few months.
All base toppers will have a corresponding theme to the building ranges GDT already has available. This month’s theme is tied to the Ares range. Please note that most bases have 1 (or some bases 2) types of recesses that allow for some customisation. The recesses on the groud allow to use parts like IS-020 or IS-019 to be inserted or can be used with a magnet to attach some sort of token (in case you use those).
The recesses on the emplacements allow to add parts like the tech emplacements or the various guns that are available already.
